For your Transfer Advocate to be their most effective they will be governed by a core set of principals.

Confidentiality

The Transfer Advocate will maintain a high degree of confidentiality in order to provide students with the confidence necessary to share their story. With permission, the Transfer Advocate may contact institutions or stakeholders involved in the student’s case to better understand the overall situation.

Impartiality

The Transfer Advocate will utilize and promote impartiality in their work. This will ensure the Advocate avoids situations that may lead to or cause conflicts of interest.

Independence

As a third-party, the Transfer Advocate will operate with a high degree of independence. This independence will allow the Advocate to examine issues free from outside pressure.

Functions

The Transfer Advocate is committed to the following core functions:

Listening

The Transfer Advocate will provide a safe environment for students, parents, and faculty to express issues and concerns impacting their experience with transfer.

Questions

To best understand the situation, the Transfer Advocate will employ strategically asked questions to more accurately understand a student’s story, perspective, and priorities within transfer.

Information

The Transfer Advocate will provide important information regarding Transfer Pathways, policies, and procedures, and data to best assist students.

Communication

With permission of the student, the Transfer Advocate may contact specific stakeholders to gather more information relevant to the student’s concerns and experiences with transfer.

Mediation

In some instances, the Transfer Advocate will act as a mediator. As mediator, the Transfer Advocate will calmly and impartially provide a space for the student and their institution to reach an identifiable and mutually acceptable solution.
