Henri Mingo - Public Relations Coordinator

What progress have you made on your Cabinet duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

We had our first meeting with the Chancellor this year, and I have begun contact with some of the statewide committees I will be apart of such as the Technology Council, which will be meeting soon. This past month I have continued to take minutes for every official meeting. I have been working with the Basic Needs campaign here at LeadMN on Hunger Free Campus and the new program I am starting. I have begun work on supporting other members of the team in bringing a new program to life that I am very excited about becoming available to students. We have finalized the theme for our year and the Gala and I have worked to create the design for this.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I have been ensuring that as I go out on campus visits for GOTV efforts that students know what scholarships, emergency grants, and opportunities are available to them through LeadMN. I have also continued work on creating an upcoming program with LeadMN that would help reduce barriers for students meeting their basic needs. This program will also become a way for students to get more involved with LeadMN and on their campus. I also helped prepare for September conference by creating a basic needs campaign video laying out our plan for the year and encouraging others to get involved.

Outline your biggest achievement this month?

Finalizing our Gala theme was my biggest achievement this month, and I am excited for it all to come together!

Caledon Johnston - Treasurer

What progress have you made on your Cabinet duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

This month started slow for me as Treasurer. I was keeping up with my emails and any communication sent to me, but I was down in Winona focusing on school for the first half of the month. I then came to the office to get the college affordability video filmed that was shown for September conference. I also submitted my August Leadership Report. Then towards the end of the month, I attended the GC Meeting as well as Heart of the Leader with our wonderful LeadMN leaders and cabinet members, and had a great time and learned a lot from this training. I also attended for two days the class raps we had at UofM. I also had our monthly Fiscal Committee meeting as well. I also have been coordinating the US Bank Stadium games this month and successfully had our team go out on September 11th to participate in the game to raise funds for the emergency grant program. I also attended the September Conference virtually while at another conference in person.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I've gone out to UofM for the GOTV Blitz effort that we have been partnering with the Undergraduate Student Government at UofM for two days to perform class raps to hand out voter registration and pledge forms out as well as informing students the importance of voting. I also have been getting students involved in the emergency grant volunteering opportunity at US Bank Stadium, and partnered with PTK to involve their students within our efforts to raise funds for our emergency grant program.

Outline your biggest achievement this month?

My biggest achievement this month was being able to get many volunteers to sign up for the US Bank Stadium, and I am looking to continue to expand this by looking for more places to contact and partner with to involve more students and volunteers that want to help with raising funds for the emergency grant program.

Sylvester Jah -  Governing Council Representative

What progress have you made on your GC or PC duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

This month, I volunteered at a Vikings game to help raise funds for our emergency grant program.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I've been working with the student life coordinator at Hennepin Tech towards finding a date that I could meet with their senate to go over the LeadMn agenda relating to the upcoming election. Moreover, I have also been working alongside the North Hennepin CC student senate to promote LeadMn’s scholarships around campus

What is happening on the campuses in your region?

In my region, the North Hennepin senate is currently planning a GOTV event where they would help students get information on their polling station, mail-in ballots, transportation, and registration.

Chad Jacob - Governing Council Representative

What progress have you made on your GC or PC duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

This month I have successfully made contact with two student senate presidents in the Southeast region, specifically Winona and Red Wing and we had our first monthly regional meeting. Attempts to get in contact with Riverland campuses has stalled waiting on replies but I am hopeful that new info sent to LeadMN will prove fruitful.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I have kept the executive team at RCTC aware of each event as well as overall goals and will be promoting the LeadMN fall general assembly in our upcoming (and inaugural) student senate meeting for this school year.

What is happening on the campuses in your region?

After hearing from student senate presidents Jack in Winona and Samantha in Red Wing I was informed on some of their own campus challenges related to stocking of food pantries and other costs which have limited senate operations. I will be presenting this to LeadMN reps to see how we might best be of assistance collectively.

Juan Canas - Governing Council Representative

What progress have you made on your GC or PC duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

I have gotten in contact with Fond Du Lac, but they unfortunately do not have a senate. I have gotten in contact with Pine Tech, but they have not replied to my emails recently. I built a good relationship with CLC, because their senate president is also the PC of our region.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I have hosted tables in my school (LSC) with GOTV information. We have gotten students to come up with voting plans and submit their voting plan to the LeadMN website. LSC had 3 students in the September conference, and we will be sending around 8 senators to the October conference. CLC had 4 in the September Conference. I will be sending an email to Pine Tech to make sure they have senators coming to the October Conference, since the deadline is coming up in a week. I am planning on doing a campus visit to CLC pretty soon.

What is happening on the campuses in your region?

LSC has a senate of 13 students. The senate is currently trying to pass their new bylaws and work on the GOTV grant we received from LeadMN. The VP of advancement and external relations recently quit. He was also in charge of the foundation. He was able to give out all the money left in the emergency fund grant to students before leaving. There is a research committee for a Dean of Liberal Arts, since the current one is retiring soon. LSC started a Civil Discourse Task Force due to the events of discrimination to the LGBTQ+ community which happened last semester. The food shelf is full, but students are using it at a faster rate compared to last year. The senate is planning on doing a food drive, to keep the food shelf going. From CLC I heard they have a big senate including all the representatives of student clubs. They recently passed an e-sports club and launched an e-sports lounge on campus.
