Bio

My name is Fartun Mohamed, 26 years old born and raised in this Great State of Minnesota! I have attended college before however, life got in the way and I was unable to complete the degree I was working on before. I have been blessed to be able to go to Northland, meet all sorts of wonderful people and gain a quality education. I am currently working on my Nursing degree!

1. What degree or certificate program are you seeking?

Registered Nursing, then RN to BSN

2. Please describe your previous student government or professional experience, and how it has prepared you for this position.

I am currently a very active member of the East Grand Forks campus' Student Senate, and I have also been president of the Multicultural Club in the past. These experiences have opened my eyes to the diversity and the struggle of various students, and moving to Greater Minnesota has shown me that there needs to be more done for the students up here as the resources are few and far between compared to the Metro area.

3. Why are you running for this position?

I hope to amplify and represent the struggle that students in Greater Minnesota face. I also want to reach out to those in power to let them see that we are as diverse as any other part of the state and we have needs that have to be met as well. The college experience is something we all share and I hope to communicate that to everyone as the Public Relations Coordinator.

4. What challenges do you see facing Minnesota's community and technical college students?

Up here we face the struggle of securing our basic needs. There is the mindset that is prevalent up here where some students don't expect help from their colleges with things like food and even help with their degrees and making their schedules. I want to shed light onto these students struggles and help them be aware of the help they can receive. On the other hand I want people in power to know what these students face and how to help them. I hope to do this as Public Relations Coordinator.
