Henri Mingo - Public Relations Coordinator

What progress have you made on your Cabinet duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

I have been continuing my work to connect with community organizations to get clothing to students at upcoming conferences. I have also begun collecting clothing donations myself and using what I've learned through these community connections to begin a clothing closet at LeadMN. I finalized the logo for the 25th anniversary theme we decided on as a Cabinet this year. In addition I have been editing the outgoing letters and documents used to promote the Scholarship Gala to include this new theme logo. I have been attending the Technology Council Committee meetings including the Accessibility Committee and the Online Education Committee. I attended the monthly Chancellors meeting, and got to hear about the work they are doing. I prepared a lot this month for the October Student Leadership Summit, including my New Student Orientation which I ran two sessions of at the conference.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I helped organize and run our October Conference this past month and I was so glad to connect with student leaders from last year and new student leaders who were joining a LeadMN conference for the first time. It is amazing to hear all of the plans folks have for their campuses and I was glad to be able to connect with students about projects we can collaborate on. Through my New Student Orientation I hope students learned more about the structure of LeadMN and learned about how to get involved with the committees and councils we have available seats in.

Outline your biggest achievement this month?

I was so glad to meet with the community partner to learn more about making our Career Closet event a reality at future conferences.

Caledon Johnston - Treasurer

What progress have you made on your Cabinet duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

This month as Treasurer, I have been keeping in check with our representatives to ensure they have been getting paid for their work, and I have been attending the weekly cabinet meetings to stay up to date and report what I've been doing. The main work I've done this month was to prepare and facilitate the October GA Conference. It was a very great way to get to meet the students of our community, and I was very glad to attend. I was also able to present a verbal report unofficially after the GA of what I've done as treasurer this year so far. I had also gone to do a class rap at MSCS Winona. I also ran the Fiscal Committee Meeting at the end of the month. I was also able to coordinate a meeting with LeadMN and MSCS Winona's Senate to join their senate meeting. The last thing I did this month was attend the US Bank Stadium game for raising funds for the Emergency Grant Program. I also submitted this month's stipends for our reps and reimbursement requests.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I plan to keep in touch with those that I met at the GA conference, as well as reaching out more to campuses in the next couple months to get inactive campuses involved with LeadMN once again in the Southern region. I will also continue to advertise for the US Bank Stadium Volunteering opportunity.

Outline your biggest achievement this month?

My biggest achievement this month was being able to attend the October GA and successfully facilitate it as a Cabinet member. I was really glad to meet our students from all over the state, and also have a chance to develop my personal speaking skills as well as for public speaking. I want to continue to grow with this and being able to make more connections with all of our students from all the campuses we represent.

Austin and Winona Minnesota State Colleges Southeast met in our regional meeting and discussed obstacles and opportunities related to LeadMN interaction in our region. Progress is now being made on key concerns related to food shelf support for their campuses. I am still trying to connect with Riverland Community College's student senate president but am waiting to hear back so that all regional campus Presidents may be in attendance.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

In October, nine members of the RCTC Student Senate traveled up to Bloomington for the LeadMN Fall General Assembly. Several members of our senate expressed very positive learning experiences in both the sessions and understanding of the state structure of 2 year college representation in general through conversations with peers in other campuses. It was a wonderful time. Additionally, I have spoken to regional campuses encouraging toward future opportunities with LeadMN in general, notable the Spring General Assembly.

What is happening on the campuses in your region?

There is a model Legislature coming up mid-November at Winona State University that Chris from MSCS invited us at RCTC to attend with them. This will be an awesome opportunity to network with students from area colleges as well as state legislators who will be in attendance.

What is happening on the campuses in your region?

M State Fergus Falls is working on or has already upgraded their food pantry to include refrigeration. Northland East Grand Forks is also looking to either implement a food pantry or expand on a food pantry. Norhtwest Technical College is also looking at expanding their food pantry and making efforts to receive grants to help that effort of expansion. If I remember correctly, M State Wadena is hosting a GOTV event titled "Donut Forget to Vote" on their campus. Similarly, Northwest Technical College is hosting a GOTV event on voting day titled "Pizza Democracy (Piece of Democracy)." Unsure about M State Moorhead, M State Detroit Lakes and Northland Thief River Falls. I do believe an issue that is common among campuses in engagement.
