Bio

My name is David Mesta and I'm running to represent you as your next LeadMN Vice President. I currently attend South Central College - Faribault. I was born and raised in Faribault, MN.  I currently serve you as your LeadMN Treasurer and want to continue my work on the policy side and continue to lower the barriers students face with the pandemic and strive for continue change for student success.

1. What degree or certificate program are you seeking?

finishing up my AA in communication and then double major in political science and communication.

2. Please describe your previous student government or professional experience, and how it has prepared you for this position.

I have been involved in my student senate and multiple clubs since my first semester in 2018 and have served multiple positions from Treasurer, VP, and President on my campus. I have been involved in LeadMN as a PC Alt where I have worked on policy changes on the platform documents, working bylaws, legislative agenda and received PC of The Year for my dedication. I currently serve as Treasurer and with my experience I am better prepared for this position to represent all 2 year college students.

3. Why are you running for this position?

I am running for Vice President to continue the work I and my fellow cabinet members and past leaders started to keep advocating for student issues like mental health, basic needs, equity, and college affordability because while they are not the only issues they are most prevalent in helping current and future students succeed and not face the same barriers I faced and the many fellow peers did attending college. I also want to cultivate the next student Leaders and make PC as strong as possible

4. What challenges do you see facing Minnesota's community and technical college students?

I see students struggling with the pandemic, the increasing tuition cost, and not being able to afford the basic needs they need to take care of themselves and finish collage at the same time. students are facing more mental health issues trying to balance college and work life during this pandemic and not having enough resources or support in an online environment. theses are not the only issues students are facing but the ones most prevalent and I want to lower these barriers if elected VP.
