Bio

My name is Boris, and I am an African student from Cameroon. Electrical engineering has always been my interest, thus I'm presently seeking a degree in it. I really think that to become a better version of myself, I must always study and grow. When I'm not studying, I like to play sports like basketball and soccer and participate in volunteer work in the community. I'm enthusiastic about the prospects the future will bring, and I'm determined to have a constructive influence on the world.

What degree or certificate program are you seeking?

I am now pursuing an Associate of Science in Engineering at Anoka Ramsey Community institution with the goal of moving to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. This has long been a dream of mine since I've always been interested by how electricity works and how it can be used to power our planet. My current engineering courses are creating a solid basis for my future studies, and I am eager to delve deeper into the discipline of Electrical Engineering. I have examined various four-year schools and universities and want to attend one that will help me achieve my academic and professional goals. I understand that this will not be an easy road, but I am committed to put in the effort and attention required to reach my goals and become a professional Electrical Engineer.

Please describe your previous student government or professional experience, and how it has prepared you for this position.

I got excellent experience in leadership, communication, and teamwork as a Student Senator at Anoka Ramsey Community College, which I feel will prepare me well for this role. As a Senator, I have collaborated with other students and administration to solve student-body problems, such as increasing campus resources and amenities. This has entailed listening to my colleagues' issues, suggesting solutions, and lobbying for change. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to participate in various committees, such as the student life committee and the budget committee, through which I have gained insight into the college's decision-making processes. I have gained good communication skills as a result of my engagement in student government, since I often speak with colleagues Senators, college officials, and students. Overall, I think that my experience as a Student Senator has provided me with the skills and knowledge required to serve in this role successfully and make a good influence on behalf of the student population.

Why are you running for this position?

As an emerging leader, I am deeply committed to making a good difference in my community and speaking for causes that are important to me and others around me. I'm running for the Platform Committee position because I feel it provides a unique chance to participate to the formulation of policies and programs that will benefit students throughout Minnesota. I intend to apply my talents, expertise, and perspective on the Platform Committee to help set the organization's objectives and promote fair access to education, while also tackling concerns such as cost, mental health, and campus safety. I feel that LEADMN has the ability to make a significant difference in kids' lives, and I am enthusiastic about the chance.

What challenges do you see facing Minnesota's community and technical college students?

Students at Minnesota's community and technical colleges encounter issues relating to economics, a shortage of mental health resources, remote learning owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, and campus safety concerns. Students' scholastic performance and mental health might suffer as a result of financial limitations that require them to work long hours or take out more loans. Stress and anxiety can be exacerbated by insufficient mental health services. Remote learning may have a negative impact on the college experience and feeling of community, and campus safety issues can have an impact on student well-being, belonging, and academic achievement. Addressing these issues is critical to providing kids with the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
