LeadMN is for the official voice of the 180,000 public Minnesota two-year college students at the Minnesota State system office, in the halls of the Minnesota state capitol, and with Minnesota’s federal delegation in Washington DC.
Every year our student leaders choose the issues that we work on to make the dream of college a reality for more and more Minnesotans. Those issues are chosen from the policy positions that are approved in our Platform Document during our annual General Assembly, where 200-300 student discuss issues that impact the students that they represent.
Our State and Federal Agendas
State Legislative Agenda
Every year, students develop and approve a state legislative agenda. This year we are advocating for increased use of affordable textbooks, an improved financial aid award letter, greater transparency for students, and the Minnesota State supplemental budget and bonding requests.
Federal Legislative Agenda
We also advocate at the federal level on higher education issues. Our agenda includes: Increased funding for TRIO and Gear Up programs, a permanent solution to DACA-eligible individuals, strengthening federal financial aid programs, incentivize the use on online education resources, and simplify the FAFSA.
