Join the LeadMN team! Develop leadership and nonprofit governance through elected positions or build your professional skills with an internship. These positions are open only to 2-year college students attending a Minnesota State Technical or Community College.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors serve as the governing board for LeadMN. The Board meets monthly throughout the year to guide the business of the organization and make decisions regarding program work and how we can best serve the needs of students.

We’re still looking for a regional representative from Region 2: Central. Schools in the Central Region include:

Internship Opportunities

LeadMN offers paid internships that give students hands-on experience in organizing, marketing, public policy, and database management. We hire for these positions starting in Spring with internships starting in August. These internships are available only to students enrolled in a 2-year Minnesota State Community or Technical College. LeadMN Marketing Internship

The LeadMN Marketing Intern will assist with various aspects of our digital marketing and communications outreach including hands-on experience in social media management and content creation; email marketing; market research and data-informed marketing practices; as well as campaign planning and execution.

In this position, you will receive leadership training and will work with the Communications Manager to build skills in digital media platforms and programs while contributing ideas to organizational communications projects and plans.

The Marketing Intern will have the opportunity to collaborate on marketing campaigns and expand their skills in various mediums of content creation and outreach like photo and video editing, graphic design, and copywriting, while gaining an understanding of brand identity. 

This is a part-time, contract position. Intern will be paid $16.50/ hour with 200-250 hours over the academic year (August to June). This position offers flexible hours and is a remote/ hybrid position with some weekend and evening hours for LeadMN events.

Full Job Description

LeadMN Student Advocate Internship

The Student Advocate position is assigned to one of 7 regions among the Minnesota State 2 year college system. Their role is to be a point of contact between students in the region and LeadMN. This is a hands-on position that works closely with the Campus Organizing Directors and Policy Director to develop skills in leadership, advocacy, and organizing, as well as push past the barriers to drive community wide change. The student advocate intern will have the chance to voice regional issues noticed by themselves and other students, request and coordinate training opportunities for students in their region, and lead monthly meetings for students in the region to engage with LeadMN. 

This opportunity is of mutual benefit to the student as a learning experience and for LeadMN to have more direct engagement on different campuses. 

The Student Advocate is a part-time, contract position that is primarily remote. Meetings will held virtually with opportunities to meet in-person. Student Advocates will receive a $4,125 yearly stipend, up to 250 hours over the year (August to May)

LeadMN Advocacy & Public Policy Internship

The responsibility of the Advocacy and Public Policy Intern is to support ongoing student-led higher education advocacy efforts. This position will provide hands-on experience in policy research, advocacy strategy, communication and the power of storytelling, as well as assisting in planning and organizing LeadMN Advocacy Day.

The intern will work closely with the Policy Director, and other members of the organization to support the development and communication of policy initiatives, organize advocacy campaigns, and engage with legislators, student advocates,and higher education stakeholders.

Interns will learn best practices on conducting research for state and national policies relevant to LeadMN students and schools, and will compile reports and summaries to inform our advocacy efforts. Outreach will include drafting social media messages, supporting outreach to stakeholders, and attend meetings to foster collaboration. 

The Advocacy and Public Policy Internship is a part-time, contract position. Interns will be paid $16.50/ hour with 250 hours over the academic year (August to May) This position offers flexible hours, with occasional hours in the evening or on the weekend

LeadMN Scholarship Database Internship

As a Scholarship Database Intern, you will play a key role in maintaining and updating our scholarship database. You’ll gain valuable experience in database management, research, data entry, and process improvement while working with software tools like AwardSpring and Drupal.

This internship offers hands-on exposure to scholarship research, data privacy best practices, website management, and the basics website management

This is a unique opportunity to develop critical skills in data management and problem-solving while contributing to a mission-driven organization. By the end of the internship, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the scholarship landscape in Minnesota and have built valuable skills for future roles in data management, research, and digital systems. 

The Scholarship Database Intern will work closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., scholarship providers) to collect, verify, and manage scholarship data. This role will support critical thinking and problem-solving skills by troubleshooting database issues, identifying patterns, and suggesting improvements for greater efficiency.

The Internship is a part-time, contract position. Intern will be paid $16.50/ hour with 500 to 600 hours over the academic year (August to May) This position offers flexible hours and is a remote or hybrid position where you can work from home or at the state office in St. Paul, MN.
