FEDERAL AID RESOURCES

FAFSA: Use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to apply for financial aid for college, career school, or graduate school.

Pell Grant: Federal Pell Grants are typically awarded to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.

TRIO: The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant: A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a grant for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The FSEOG program is administered directly by the financial aid office at each participating school.

STATE AID RESOURCES

North Star Promise: North Star Promise provides free college tuition to help make education after high school possible for more Minnesota students and families. Free tuition is available at all Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, all University of Minnesota campuses, and all Tribal Colleges. 

American Indians Scholars Program: Provides up to $4,000 for undergraduates and up to $6,000 for graduate students of financial assistance to eligible Minnesota resident students who demonstrate financial need for an award.

MN Dream Act: Under the Minnesota Dream Act, undocumented students may be eligible for in-state tuition rates, privately funded financial aid administered by Minnesota public colleges and universities and can apply for state financial aid.

Grants for Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Provides students with intellectual and developmental disabilities with financial assistance for tuition and fees at select institutions.

The Postsecondary Child Care Grant Program: Helps low income students who have young children pay for child care while the student attends classes.

 

General Financial Resources

National College Attainment Network: NCAN uses their knowledge, passion, and talents to effectively serve students, communities, and members, while remaining aware of and responsive to each group’s varied and multiple needs.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: The CFPB helps consumers by providing educational materials and accepting complaints. It supervises banks, lenders, and large non-bank entities, such as credit reporting agencies and debt collection companies. The Bureau also works to make credit card, mortgage, and other loan disclosures clearer, so consumers can understand their rights and responsibilities.
