Rose Sargent

GC Representative, Region 3
She/her

Rose Sargent is a first year student pursuing her Associate’s degree in Communication at South Central College (SCC) in North Mankato. Originally from Kansas City, MO, Rose moved to Minnesota in the Summer of 2023, to start her education journey. Due to her non-traditional background, she became an advocate for first generation college students, the LGBTQIA+ community, and students who face significant barriers while pursuing their education.

As a member of the Student Senate, she strives to provide support to all students pursuing their degree at SCC. Rose works passionately to inspire positive change in the student culture and community as a whole. She hopes to use her position to lower tuition and increase community involvement in campus initiatives. Currently, Rose is involved in the revival of the school’s speech and debate program. After witnessing the values of the activity she felt driven to provide SCC students with the same opportunities to use their voice and advocate for change they want to see in the world.

As a member of Lead MN, Rose hopes to engage students and inspire them to become more active in the communities they’re a part of. She views her classmates and generation as the voice of the future and is determined to educate her peers on the importance of critical thinking, staying updated on current events, and recognizing their own agency as an individual. She feels it is her personal
responsibility to represent students in Southern MN fairly and unbiasedly. To better serve those she represents, she asks students and community members alike to share their experiences, perspectives, or ideas with her personally. Rose intends to use her time with Lead MN to grow and learn while also inspiring positive change. She hopes to gain new perspectives, skills, and a better understanding of what it means to represent a diverse population.
