ADVOCACY 

Minnesota Council on Disability – The Minnesota Council on Disability (MCD) advises the Governor, state agencies, the state legislature, and the public on disability issues for a barrier-free Minnesota where every person with a disability has full access to all areas of life guided by a vision of accessibility, equity, and independence. 

Minnesota Disability Law Center – The Minnesota Disability Law Center (MDLC) of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid is the federally designated Protection and Advocacy agency for people with disabilities in the state of Minnesota.

Minnesota Disability Law Information Fact Sheets – A series of Fact Sheets prepared by the Minnesota Disability Law Center. The Fact Sheet topics are based on the input of individuals with disabilities and families who participated in focus groups, and identified their needs and expectations around family support services.

Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance – Nonprofit association of local people that educate local people about brain injury. Offers education, advocacy, support and prevention tips using a statewide, toll-free family help line.

CAREER SUPPORT

MN Employment and Economic Development’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services – MN Employment and Economic Development’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services unit can help you prepare for, find and keep a job, and live as independently as possible. 

Bender Virtual Career Fair – Provides an opportunity for employers and job seekers with disabilities to connect online and network from the convenience of their homes or offices. This virtual career fairs include national candidate participation, averaging 1,000 participants in past fairs.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES

Minnesota Disability Hub – A free statewide resource network that helps those with disabilities solve problems, navigate the system and plan for your future. 

The ARC Minnesota – Provides consistent and essential services to people with disabilities and their families. The ARC Minnesota’s services throughout the state include access to real-time assistance and information, online and in-person training events, and a statewide public policy platform involving people at a grassroots level.

PACER – PACER provides individual assistance, workshops, publications, and other resources to help families make decisions about education and other services for their child or young adult with disabilities.

Minnesota Community Education Association Adults with Disabilities Program – Adults with Disabilities programs are designed to serve adults with physical, developmental or cognitive disabilities by encouraging inclusion in the community and providing educational, social and recreational opportunities for participants. Programming can include development of classes and activities specifically for adults with disabilities as well as providing reasonable accommodations for adults with disabilities to participate in any Community Education activity.

 

Learning Accessbility Resources

Learning Disabilities Association of Minnesota (LDA) – LDA Minnesota helps children, youth, and adults with or at risk for learning and attention challenges to achieve their potential in work, school, and life. This includes ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.

International Dyslexia Association – Upper Midwest – The International Dyslexia Association-Upper Midwest is your touchable, trustable connection to solid information, proven strategies, local resources and unwavering support.

Cow Tipping Press – Metro-wide, inclusive writing classes for adults with developmental disabilities (over 400 alums and counting), a radical chance to speak for themselves in a medium usually used to speak about them.

Next Chapter Book Club – Next Chapter Bookstore offers community-based book clubs for adolescents and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Being able to read is not required. Participants meet weekly for one hour to read aloud and discuss a book provided by the library. St. Paul

Neurodivergent Resources

Minnesota Neurodivergent Education Advocacy and Therapy Services – (MnNEAT) is to support meaningful inclusion of ND people across the lifespan into the world of their choosing. We support and uphold their rights to live authentically and ensure equitable access to our services through the engagement of mentors who represent the diversity of the ND community.

Autism Society of Minnesota – Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) seeks to enhance the lives of all who are part of the Minnesota autism community, with a fundamental commitment to advocacy, education, support, collaboration, and community building.

MNprov – MNprov Live! is Minnesota’s first professional improv troupe featuring all neurodivergent players. 

Multicultural Autism Action Network (MAAN) – MAAN is dedicated to transforming and empowering multicultural communities by providing effective support and education for autistic individuals and their families.

Ahh-tism Smiles – A nonprofit that bridges the gap between autism families and dental communities, providing free sensory-friendly dental events around the Twin Cities.

Bridging Hearts – Bridging Hearts provides quality social connections, both online and in person, for an underserved population of isolated and lonely young adults with learning differences including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Bridging Hearts will provide and maintain a supportive community where everyone feels valued. Virtual and in-person.

Vision & Hearing Resources

Think Self – Minnesota Deaf Adult Education and Advocacy

State Services for the Blind – Provides tools and training for employment, living independently, and accessing print. We assist Minnesotans who are blind, DeafBlind, experiencing vision loss, or have difficulty accessing the printed word.

Sight and Hearing Association – Over 80 years of identifying and preventing vision and hearing loss, in partnership with other professional and community organizations, by providing screenings, education and research.

PANDA Blindness & Vision Loss Resources – PANDA’s mission is to provide Minnesota Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs with disability support, knowledge and resources to increase academic opportunities for all students.
