David Mesta is from Faribault, MN and is a first-generation college student who recently graduated from South Central College - Faribault with an AA in Liberal Arts & Sciences and Communication Studies and currently attends Normandale Community College and Minnesota State University, Mankato to double major in Political Science and Communication Studies.
He graduated High School in 2018 and soon after began his college journey where he joined Student Senate in the fall of 2018 as their newly elected Treasurer and was also involved on multiple campus clubs from 2018 to 2020 on the Campus Activities Board, InterVarsity, and Rotaract Club where he served multiple positions as Treasurer, Vice President, and President. He also served in his community as Sergeant of his local PD Explorer Post volunteering in community service and security. Through student senate he eventually became involved with LeadMN as a Platform Committee Member and Census & GOTV Intern. He was also honored to have received the 2020 Platform Committee Member of the Year Award for the work he did to represent the Metro South Region and also be a part of the legislative process to advocate for college students.
David is passionate about working on civic engagement and college affordability to better help students achieve their degrees with less hurdles. This past year, he served as the LeadMN Treasurer representing all two year college students and also led the Emergency Grant program helping over 100 students facing food insecurity to help them stay in college.
Outside of work, David enjoys hanging out with friends, reading, Netflix, and watching his favorite pastime WWE.
This year, David is excited to work on the policy side of the organization, chair the Platform Committee, and to represent all two-year college students in the state of MN by advocating for college affordability, transfer process and basic needs resources.
